Academia is not always graduation photos and published articles on a CV … Here is a more realistic description of what life can look like as an academic mom.

2006

Joined my first research lab as I completed my bachelors in Psychology. At this time, I decided to “do research” for the rest of my life and get married. What a year!

2007-2010

Met my amazing academic mentor when I started graduate school at the University of Houston.

2010

Graduated with a masters in I/O Psychology from the University of Houston.

2010-2013

Learned so much at Temple University where I received my PhD from the Fox School of Business. Pic of my first day teaching!

2013

I graduated with my PhD and had to waddle across stage (instead of walk across stage) to get my diploma because I was 9 months pregnant.

2013

I started my first academic job at the University of New Mexico as an Assistant Professor. We moved to Albuquerque when my daughter was just 6 weeks old!

2013-2017

In Albuquerque, Lexi helped me with every journal review and paper submission when she was a baby and a toddler.

2017

We soon decided that cooler weather suited us better so we moved to Colorado!

2017

Experienced so much as I started working at CU Boulder – including teaching my first MBA class and getting the opportunity to develop a diversity class at the Leeds School of Business.

2018

Everyday in beautiful Colorado presents an opportunity to work and play outside!

2019

As my daughter started elementary school, I saw the chance to do something that I had wanted to do for a long time – start the Diversity and Identity Management Research Lab!

2020

When COVID shut down everything, we continued lab meetings and research online. But everything looked different. We had no idea her dad was going to be identified as an essential worker during COVID so we had a lot of girl time and developed a lot of patience as we worked and lived on top of each other for a year! Most days Lexi did her school work next to me as I taught classes on Zoom.

2021 and beyond…

We are excited to have lab meetings in person in the Fall. As we prepare for the return to in person, Lexi is deciding if she is ready for 3rd grade.
